Munshiganj court has granted a 7-day police remand for former MP Faisal Biplob in connection with the murder of Sajal Molla during a protest in Munshiganj. Police had sought a 10-day remand, but the court approved seven after a hearing on Tuesday.
Biplob was transferred from Keraniganj Central Jail to Munshiganj Jail on Monday. That evening, BNP’s youth and student wings held a protest demanding his exemplary punishment.
The case stems from a violent clash during an anti-discrimination protest on August 4, 2023, in which three people, including day laborer Sajal Molla, were killed and over 200 injured. Biplob was named the prime accused.
He was arrested by the Detective Branch on June 22 from his home in Dhaka’s Monipuripara after being in hiding since August 5, 2023. He is also facing several other charges, including three murder and at least five attempted murder cases.
