Ex-Moulvibazar MP dies of coronavirus in New York

Md Sirajul Islam, Former MP from Moulvibazar-1 (Barlekha-Juri) constituency and freedom fighter, died from coronavirus in New York of USA on Saturday evening. He was undergoing treatment at Elmhurst Hospital in New York where he passed away at about 6:00 pm (local time).

Environment, Forest and Climate Change Md Shahab Uddin on Sunday expressed deep shock at the death of Md Sirajul Islam. In a condolence message, he said that Sirajul was one of the organisers of the Liberation War. His contribution to the War of Independence will be remembered forever. The minister prayed for salvation of the departed soul of Sirajul Islam and expressed sympathy to the bereaved family members.

Sirajul Islam was elected MP from Awami League’s ticket in 1973 and 1979. He also severed as the president of Barlekha Upazila unit of Awami League and the upazila chairman. He is survived by wife, one son and four daughters.
