Evoys of ASEAN countries pay courtesy call on DNCC Mayor

Ambassadors to Bangladesh of seven ASEAN countries paid a courtesy call on DNCC Mayor Md Atiqul Islam.

The meeting was held at the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC)'s head office Nagar Bhaban at Gulshan-2 in the capital on Sunday afternoon.

The Mayor met with Indonesian Ambassador to Bangladesh Heru Hartanto Subolo, High Commissioner of Brunei to Bangladesh Haji Haris bin Othman, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Bangladesh Haznah Md Hashim, Ambassador of Vietnam to Bangladesh Pham Viet Chien, Ambassador of Thailand to Bangladesh Makawadee Sumitmor, Ambassador of the Philippines to Bangladesh Alan L. Deniega and Sheela Pillai, Consul, Consulate of Singapore in Bangladesh. 

The ASEAN-Dhaka Committee (ADC) has been formed with the aim of enhancing mutual cooperation between the eight ASEAN countries and Dhaka.

ADC Chairman and Indonesian Ambassador to Bangladesh Heru Hartanto Subolo praised the DNCC Mayor for his various public awareness and public service work.

“The ADC members will undertake various programs to enhance the relations between the eight ASEAN countries and Dhaka. We would like to implement a tree planting programme in Dhaka at the outset,” he said.

During the discussions it was decided to hold tree plantation programmes at the initiative of ADC in August next year in the DNCC area.

Greeting and thanking the guests at the meeting, the Mayor said, “Building a 'Sister City' among the ADC members will enable them to exchange knowledge and experience with each other. This will enhance mutual cooperation.”

During the meeting, discussions were held on how to exchange models and experiences of good practices, including footpath management, between cities. DNCC CEO Md Selim Reza and other senior officials were present at the meeting.
