‘Ensure free flow of water in Korotoa’

International Day of Action for Rivers observed in Bogura

On the occasion of International Day of Action for Rivers-2020, Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon (BAPA)’s Bogura unit organised a foot march in Bogura town on Saturday morning.

The march started from Satmatha area of the town and ended in front of Bogura DC office at the banks of Korotoa River. The theme of this year's International Day of Action for Rivers is "Ensure dam, grabbing and pollution-free river flow. Implement the judgment of the High Court on river affairs fully not partly”. 

BAPA’s Bogura unit’s General Secretary Md. Ziaur Rahman highlighted the importance of the Day in the programe. At the program chaired by freedom fighter Anwarul Karim Dulal, Greater Bogura Samity General Secretary AKM Kamrul Islam and Vice President of BAPA’s Bogura unit Abdul Mannan spoke among others.

Speakers said that the rivers of the country are dying today due to the indifference and carelessness of greedy class of people. In the same way the life of Bogura, Korotoa River is also facing threats of extinction. Therefore, the time has come to ensure free flow of water in the river.  From the foot march immediate steps from district administration were sought to save all the rivers of Bogura.

At the same time, emphasis was put on assentation of legal rights of a river as a living entity as well as on the speedy implementation of the judgment of the High Court in the protection of the river.
