A workshop has emphasized on enhancing the capacity of police personnel to deal with road safety hazards in Bangladesh as per the globally practiced ‘Safe Systems Approach’.
As part of the Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety (BIGRS), the Global Road Safety Partnership (GRSP) arranged the training workshop on road policing leadership with Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) officials.
A total of 76 police officers, 38 from CMP, are taking part in the two-day training workshop began on Tuesday (July 4, 2023) at Radisson Blu Hotel in the port city. The training programme will end today (Wednesday).

Four engineers of Chattogram City Corporation and two officers of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) also participated in the training workshop.
Such workshop has been organised for the first time in Chattogram to increase the capacity of the policemen to ensure safe roads.
It was said from the GRSP that the training programme will enable police officers to learn about international and national road policing techniques and reduce road-collision deaths and injuries by enforcing traffic laws more effectively.
CMP Commissioner Krishna Pada Roy inaugurated the training workshop. GRSP Senior Road Policing Adviser Russel Nyman conducted the programme.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Faisal Mahmud, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) ASM Mahtab Uddin, Additional Commissioner of Police (Administration and Finance) MA Masud and CMP senior officers were present as special guests in the workshop.
GRSP’s Asia-Pacific region manager Brat Harman and BIGRS’s Chattogram Initiative Coordinator Labib Tajwan Utsav, Enforcement Coordinator Kazi Helal Uddin, Surveillance Coordinator Kazi Saifun Newaz, Transport Coordinator Mahiyat Hasna, Communication Officer Mahmudul Hasan and other officials were also present.
In the inaugural session, the CMP Commissioner said that the police should play a leading role to ensure road safety. However, it is not possible for the police alone to implement it. For this all the concerned parties have to work together, he added.
He thanked GRSP and BIGRS for organizing the training workshop aimed at increasing the capacity of the police.
