A human chain was formed in Magura on Monday on the occasion of Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women to demand punishment for women and child abusers, rapists and murderers.
Also on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Yasmin's murder, the human chain was held at the Chowrangi area of Magura district town.
The Socialist Women's Forum arranged the programme. Engineer Shampa Basu, Central General Secretary of Samajtantrik Mahila Forum, ATM Mohabbat Ali, Convener of Magura Gono Committee, Bhabatosh Biswas and Mohammad Sohel spoke on the occasion, among others. The speakers of the human chain called for ending violence against women and children.
They said that violence against women continued to rise in last 24 years after Yasmin's assassination. Recently in Cox's Bazar, a mother and daughter were humiliated by tying a rope around their waists for stealing cows.
The family of the raped girl has been fined and the belongings of the victims have been looted after arbitrating in Magura. The rally demanded punishment for abusers and rapists of women and children.
