The government will build an elevated road from Mithamain upazila sadar to Karimganj upazila in Kishoreganj district, aiming to ensuring smooth and uninterrupted road communication in all weathers in the haor region. In this regard, a project amounting to Taka 5,651.13 crore was approved in the meeting of executive committee of the national economic council (Ecnec) with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair on Tuesday.
The main objective of the 15.13 kilometer elevated road construction project is to establish smooth road communication in the haor region from Mithamain Sadar to Karimganj upazila connecting the Mithamain cantonment. Besides, some 13.40 kilometer existing road from Nakbhanga circle to Morichkhali bazar would be widened to establish smooth and uninterrupted all weather road communication of Itna, Mithamoin and Austagram upazilas with Kishoreganj Sadar, Dhaka, Sylhet and other districts.
We applaud the Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government for its bold steps to construct a 15.13 kilometer elevated road over haors in Kishoreganj to connect the northeastern backwater to the mainland. Meanwhile, construction of the Padma Multipurpose Bridge has already created a perception that “Bangladesh can do” and it has brightened the country’s image in the world.
The authorities concerned must
complete theconstruction the elevated
road within the stipulated timeframe.
We believe the government will be able to construct the elevated road over haors under the courageous and firm leadership of Sheikh Hasina as she has an unconditional love for the people of the country. She has proved that proper and bold political leadership can make impossible possible.
When the project will be implemented, the development of physical infrastructure in the haor areas will facilitate fast and easy transportation of goods, agricultural products and fishery resources throughout the year. The long waiting period will get over and the dream of disadvantaged haor people will come true as their sufferings during travelling will be reduced.
Elevated road will change the entire economic landscape of haor people in Kishoreganj and its adjacent area, connect different districts and contribute largely to communication, trade, industry, tourism and many other sectors in many ways. This disadvantage haor people now think the elevated road will be like a fresh beginning of thoughts, works, words and actions to go ahead with vision and mission as their economic activities will accelerate in coming days.
Haor areas remain isolated as a vast amount of agricultural land goes under water during the rainy season every year.
Therefore, the authorities concerned must complete the construction of the elevated road within the stipulated timeframe. Besides, all must remain cautious in expenditure as well maintaining austerity in expenditure when the construction work of elevated road will begin.
