Electronic gate to be inaugurated in Chattogram Airport today

Electronic gate is being launched at Chattogram Shah Amanat International Airport for hassle-free travel of international passengers.

Out of the 6 e-gates, international passengers will have access to 3 gates while departing and 3 gates to arrive.  The program will be officially inaugurated on November 15.

E-Passport was introduced in the country ahead of Machine Readable Passport (MRP) in 2020.  In line with this, the state-of-the-art Automated Border Control System or E-Gate was launched on June 7, 2022.

Director of Chattogram Shah Amanat International Airport, Wing Commander Taslim Ahmed said, "Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Tourism Md. Mahbub Ali is scheduled to officially inaugurate 6 e-gates on Tuesday.”  Chattogram Airport is advancing to the status of an international airport.

He said, initially this program will be conducted with the current manpower.  That is why they have already been trained.  Later specially trained officers will be appointed.

Its mentioned that the passenger must have an e-passport to use the e-gate.  First you have to scan the page with your photo, information and barcode at the entrance of e-gate.  The first step will open when all the information is verified through artificial intelligence.  The passenger's instantly available face will then be matched with the passport photo automatically through camera-based facial recognition.  If the faces match, the second gate will also open.  A passenger's immigration will be completed within 22 seconds if the server and system are fine.

E-Gate cannot be used if the current face does not match the e-passport photo for any reason.  Still the passenger has to approach the immigration officer for final clearance.

Because, even though passport information is verified electronically at e-gate, e-visa is not available in all countries.  So that visa has to be verified manually.  The immigration department has to verify and give seal and signature against it.
