Access to electricity over the last years has changed the lives of people in remote villages. Electricity has created an array of opportunities for rural people to improve their lives.
Battery-powered vehicles have made transportation easier and cost effective in rural areas. The use of irrigation electricity is increasing. Farmers are now using electricity instead of diesel to run irrigation machines. Access to electricity has made poultry and cattle farming easier.
As reported by this daily on Saturday, some 99 per cent of people are now getting electricity facilities. We have come to know that the grid area will be fully electrified within this December. Electrification in remote or off-grid areas is a bit behind, but it will be completed in March during the ‘Mujib Barsho’.
Government deserves kudos for its
determination to illuminate every
corner of the country
There was a time when most of the villages in Bangladesh did not have access to electricity. The incumbent government has changed the scenario over the last decade.
Now, almost every family in the village has a smart phone. One can see children studying under electric light, villagers watching satellite television channels. This is how electricity has been reshaping thousands of villages as well as the villagers with education and development.
Bangladesh has now been turned into a power surplus country from a deficit one. More and more regions which were previously isolated have been connected to the electricity grid. Reportedly, in 2009, the number of people having access to electricity was 47 per cent, which now increased to 99 per cent.
We appreciate the endeavours of the government to provide electricity to every corner of the country which has set an example for our future leaders. It needs no emphasising that by ensuring access to electricity for every citizen of the country we can help build an educated nation. We hope with round-the-clock power supply our rural people will improve their lives and contribute to the country’s economic growth.
