Electioneering prevails in Narayanganj city

The political conscious inhabitants of Narayanganj City assumed that the vote fight would be centralized in between Dr Selina Hayat Ivy and Advocate Taimur Alam Khandoker if Taimur runs in the race at last. The city men experienced and recalled the previous history yet not counting the conclusion because Taimur in the previous election all of a sudden just the night before polling day had withdrawn him from the candidature race by the order of his party high command. After submitting nomination papers the speech of both Dr. Ivy and Adv. Taimur, people finding a political cloudy atmosphere.

Though eleven aspirants had collected nomination papers for the mayor post of Narayanganj City Corporation election, eight candidates submitted their nomination papers till the last day of submitting on December 15.

The candidates are Awami League backed Narayanganj district Awami League senior vice president Dr. Selina Hayat Ivy, Narayanganj district unit BNP president Advocate Taimur Alam Khandoker, Khelafat Majlish leader ABM Shirajul Mamun, Islamic Andolon of Bangladesh district leader Mufti Masum Billah, Bangladesh Kolyan party leader Rashed Ferdous Sohel, Khelafot Andolon leader Md. Jasim Uddin and Joy Bangla Nagorik Committee leader Kamrul Islam Babu. District election officer Motiur Rahman confirmed the information.

On the other hand 166 councilor candidates for 27 general wards 36 candidates for women reserved councilor wards have submitted nomination papers.

A total of 5,17,357 voters including only 4 transgender voters will exercise their votes through electronic voting machine(EVM) on January 16, 2022. As per election schedule, the nomination papers would be scrutinized on December20, candidature withdrawal on December 27, symbol allotting on December 28 and the polls would be held on January 16, 2022.

After submitting nomination papers Dr. Selina Hayat Ivy in a media brief said that at the end of day all would be under boat sail though the many men have been bearing different ideas now.

Advocate Taimur Alam Khandoker who belongs to BNP politics submitted nomination papers as an independent candidate told the media that he is contesting in the election based on a consensus.

Four aspirants for the mayor post BNP men including former law maker Mohammad Gias Uddin had collected nomination forms but didn’t submit till the last date. Narayanganj City unit BNP vice president Advocate Shakhawat Hossain who also collected nomination papers, told the media that his party didn’t give consent to participate in the election.
