Electioneering gains momentum in Bhola’s Borhanuddin

The chairman, reserved and general member seat candidates for the upcoming Union Parishad polls of seven Union Parishads under Borhanuddin upazila of Bhola district have started extensive electioneering in the area to woo the voters.

They are fighting to gain the support of local voters in the election battle with the designated symbols in their hand. From morning till late at night, the election campaigns are gathering common people around to grab their attention, in local haats and bazaars.

All the candidates are in the race to win the hearts of the voters. They want to vote in the rhythm of different songs to win the hearts of mothers, sisters and voters. In the alleys of all those unions, there are posters of the candidates. Besides, the election field is getting heated as the Election Day is approaching.

One candidate is alleging assault attempt against another already. Meanwhile, the Upazila Returning Officer has issued notices to three boat symbol candidates and one independent chairman candidate to show cause regarding some clashes in 3 unions. 

According to sources, in the fourth phase election in 7 Union Parishad of Borhanuddin will be held on December 26. There are 34 people fighting as opposed to 7 chairman posts. Besides, 81 members are contesting against 21 reserved seats and 299 against 63 general members.

On December 7, 414 candidates took to the field after receiving the symbol. The election campaign is going on from morning till late at night in public gathering places like haats and bazaars as well as in voters’ houses. Candidates are praying for votes through public relations, yard meetings and exchange of views.

Meanwhile, with the exception of Baramanika and Qutuba unions, there is more than one independent chairman candidate in each union, so the boat symbol candidates are unable to take advantage. 

Besides, as there is more than one candidate for UP member in each ward, the electoral tension is growing. That is working with the importance of the voters to create a strong position.

There have been some clashes between the supporters of different candidates in Deola and Pakshiya, Tobgi Union this election. Pakshiya’s independent candidate Md Kanchan Majhi and Deula’s Independent candidate Asaduzzaman Babul was allegedly attacked while, Tobgi’s independent candidate Md Jasim Hawladar's office was allegedly vandalized at the time.

Candidates who will be participating in the election demanded a fair election environment and demanded strict intervention from the administration to maintain a peaceful election environment.  

In this regard, Borhanuddin Upazila Election Officer Md Shahidullah said, “We have made all preparations to complete the election of seven union parishads in a fair manner. In the meantime, notices have been issued to four chairman candidates in three unions to show cause. Legal action will be taken against the candidates who violate the election code of conduct.”
