Director General of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party Major General Abdul Motaleb Sazzad Mahmud on Thursday said preventing irregularities and aggression during the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election and Referendum is not only a responsibility but a state trust.
He made the remarks while addressing a preparatory rally of Ansar and VDP members at Tangail District Stadium as part of nationwide preparations to ensure a free, fair, and peaceful election.
Emphasising unity, coordination, and professionalism, the Ansar-VDP chief urged members deployed for election duty to act collectively and remain vigilant against any form of irregularity or disruption.
“Performing state duties with unity, discipline, and dedication, guided by basic training, is the foundation of a peaceful and acceptable election,” he said.
The rally was broadcast live on giant screens in Rajshahi, Naogaon, and Mymensingh districts, allowing Ansar and VDP members deployed there to receive the director general’s guidance simultaneously. The coordinated programme, officials said, boosted confidence and reinforced a firm collective stance against any attempt to undermine the election.
The director general said the force’s continuous preparatory programmes aim to strengthen communication, unity, and awareness among members assigned to election duty. Noting the sensitivity of national elections, he said collective preparedness and responsibility are key to meeting the challenge.
He added that the combined presence of 13 Ansar and VDP members at each polling centre would act as a strong deterrent against irregularities and unlawful activities.
Recalling the force’s role since its establishment in 1948, he said Ansar and VDP have long served closely with the people. “The nation looks to this force with expectation to help deliver a free, fair, and acceptable election and realise the people’s aspirations,” he said.
He also stressed discipline, proper uniform, safeguarding personal equipment, and orderly conduct while on duty, saying these would further strengthen public trust in the force and contribute to a safe and peaceful election environment.
Concluding his address, the Ansar-VDP chief said ensuring a transparent and neutral election free from the influence of vested interests is a sacred responsibility. He reaffirmed the force’s commitment to upholding democratic values and supporting a professional, credible electoral process.
