Elderly woman killed over land dispute

A 60-year old woman was killed in a dispute over the granting of land at a mosque in North Rouha village in Saturia upazila of Manikganj district. Police have detained two suspects in connection with the incident. The incident happened on Sunday night.

The deceased was identified as Josna Begum, 60, wife of late Abdul Latif of Uttor Rouha village in Saturia upazila in the district.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Saturia Police Station Motiar Rahman confirmed the matter, saying that the brothers-in-law (Debar-Vasur) of Josna Begum have donated land to construct another new mosque near a mosque in the northern part of Rauha village of the upazila. Josana Begum's family was also pressured to give land there. The incident took place in the evening after the blows started with both side.

At one stage, Josna Begum became critically injured. The locals rescued her and took her to the Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared her dead.

Police recovered the body and sent it to Manikganj District Hospital morgue. Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the incident.
