Eight players banned, fined for breaching code of conduct

Eight players and a team official was handed one-year suspensions and fines for breaching the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB)’s Code of Conduct during the Meghna Bank Dhaka Third Division Cricket League 2024-25.

After the Super League game between Tejgaon Cricket Academy and Sapphire Sporting Club, which took place at the PKSP Ground on November 18, both sides engaded with altercation and wrangle broke out between players in the middle of the field.

The incident occurred earlier this week on November 18, during a Super League match between Tejgaon Cricket Academy and Sapphire Sporting Club.  

After a long discussion, the CCDM has imposed a one-year ban on all nine individuals from participating in BCB competitions. Each has also received a minimum applicable fine of Taka 50,000.

Before the verdict, the CCDM investigated and a thorough review with the visual evidence from the incident, the Technical Committee of CCDM found Tejgaon Cricket Academy players Yeasin Arafat, Md Rifat Al Emon (Anik), Tasin Ahmed Ronobi, Md Rabbi Hasan, Md Parvez Ahmed Joy, official Robin and Sapphire Sporting Club's Md Rana Khan, Saiful Islam Shawon and Md Hridoy guilty of a Level 4 offence under Article 2.19 of the BCB Code of Conduct, which addresses any act of violence on the field of play during a match. Meahwhile, the Level 4 offences carry severe penalties, with a maximum life suspension.

BCB President Faruque Ahmed has reiterated the BCB's position on acts that contravene the Code of Conduct, as he reaffirmed the board's zero-tolerance stance on disciplinary breaches. 

“The BCB will not be lenient on disciplinary issues at any level of domestic competitions. Let this be a message to all players and officials that the Board will strictly deal with breaches of the Code of Conduct,” Faruque said.
