Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader asked the authorities concerned to make Eid journey safe and comfortable.

The government is working relentlessly so that the home-bound passengers can reach their destinations safe and comfortably during the Eid festival.

As the Eid-ul-Azha is approaching fast, the holidaymakers are getting ready to set for home to celebrate religious festival with their near and dear ones.

But, expansion work on highways, Dhaka and other city bound cattle laden trucks and roadside cattle markets are likely to cause sufferings to Eid holidaymakers this time. Unfit vehicles and slow-moving vehicles would worsen the traffic situation during the peak days before the Eid holidays.

Many parts of national highways are not in good shape alongside heavy pressure of vehicles may aggravate the situation. Besides, there is a chance of heavy rain during Eid ul-Azha holiday.

The highway police have identified over 70 challenging points where heavy traffic congestion can be created during the Eid holidays. Besides, people may face traffic congestion at 13 points on the Dhaka-Tangail-Rangpur highway unless proper measures are taken.

Over six million

holidaymakers are expected

to leave the capital

during Eid holidays

Non-automated toll collection at Padma Bridge and the Dhaka-Mawa-Bhanga Expressway could also cause long queues of south-bound vehicles amid the Eid rush.

Besides, traffic could grind to a halt due to breakdowns of rickety, unfit vehicles and crashes caused by the large number of motorbikes that will be on the highways.

Therefore, the authorities concerned must increase road monitoring by the law enforcers to make people’s Eid journey smooth and trouble-free immediately. The law enforcers will have to check animal-carrying trucks and vehicles whether those have the fitness licenses or not.

Over six million holidaymakers are expected to leave the capital during Eid holidays. Of them, nearly four million will go home by roads. Therefore, the government must take all necessary measures so that people can go to their home safely to celebrate Eid with their dear and

near ones.
