Ehsan-E-Elahi new chairman of BCIC

The government has appointed Md Ehsan-E-Elahi, chairman of the Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC), as new chairman of the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC). 

The Public Administration Ministry issued a gazette notification in this regard on Wednesday (January 20) with the highest grade of salary structure.  Ehsan-E-Elahi, an additional secretary of Bangladesh government, has been given secretary rank as the BCIC chairman. The gazette notification, signed by deputy secretary of the Public Administration Ministry Muhammad Abdul Latif, says that Md Ehsan-E-Elahi has been promoted to the level of grade-1 (status of Secretary) rank as chairman of the BCIC. 

Ehsan-E-Elahi had been serving as chairman of BRTC from August, 2019. Earlier, he served at the Road Transport and Highway Division as an additional secretary. He had also served as the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and District Magistrate of Gaibandha district and Secretary of Rajdhani Unnyan Katripakha (RAJUK).  

He is a highly accomplished and professional cadre of civil service with an experience of 29 years in both the ministries and field administration. He held various key positions in that time.

Having a diverse experience, Md Ehsan-E-Elahi joined the Bangladesh Civil Service (Administration) as an assistant commissioner through 10th BCS exam in 1991. He had served in Nilphamari district administration. Later in 1994, he joined as assistant commissioner (AC-Land) in Nilphamari Sadar upazila. He joined IMED of Planning Ministry in 1995 as assistant secretary in 1995. 

Md Ehsan-E-Elahi served as assistant secretary at Bangladesh Sangsad Secretariat from 1996 to 1999.  He became Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Narayaganj Sadar upazila in 2006. Prior to assuming this post, he served at health ministry and some other ministries. He served as Additional Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Chattogram from 2008 to 2013. At that time, he had been promoted to deputy secretary. He also worked at eastern zone of Bangladesh Railway as chief estate officer in 2013.  

Md Ehsan-E-Elahi studied at Moulvibazar Govt High School and passed SSC exam in 1980. He obtained his HSC degree from MC College in Sylhet. Later, he studied in Dhaka University and obtained BSc and MSc degrees from there. He also obtained MS (OH) degree from London University with scholarship.  

Born at Kanaghat upazila in Sylhet, Md Ehsan-E-Elahi is married and he is blessed with a son and a daughter.
