In a bid to tackle the teacher shortage crisis in schools and implement the new curriculum effectively, the Education Minister, Barrister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel, has announced plans to enlist diploma engineers as mathematics and science teachers.

Addressing a conference at the Institution of Diploma Engineers’s (IDB) auditorium, Minister Nowfel emphasized the need to incorporate diploma engineers into the education system. He highlighted their potential in delivering activity-based learning, a cornerstone of the new curriculum.

"Our goal is to address the shortage of teachers, especially in mathematics and science, by tapping into the expertise of diploma engineers," stated Minister Nowfel. He estimated a shortfall of approximately 60,000 teachers in these subjects and proposed employing diploma engineers to bridge the gap.

"With the qualifications acquired during their education, diploma engineers possess the necessary skills to teach mathematics and science at the school level," Minister Nowfel added. He emphasized the importance of their role in private educational institutions as per the requirements of the new curriculum.

The government is actively considering this proposal, aiming to enhance the quality of education and ensure adequate teacher support in schools across the country.
