Prime Minister Sheikh Halina on Sunday said her government has been working to make education multi-dimensional attaching priority to science and technology to create skilled manpower.

The incumbent government has been instrumental in establishing universities on science and technology, agriculture, textile, fashion design, marine, civil aviation and aerospace and medical as part of the government move to make education multifaceted.

Needless to say, the country has huge potential to create a globally competitive workforce by investing more in education. But despite Bangladesh’s notable success in bringing nearly all children across the country to primary schools, the quality of education remains a concern.

Authorities concerned should work to address the

barriers towards maintaining integrity and ensuring

quality of education and devise required actions to fix them

Education should not only focus on equipping the students with textbook knowledge but also it should focus on kindling thirst for knowledge. It needs no emphasising that our education system has long been in dire need of overhauling. The majority of the students in Bangladesh find it hard to get a good job because of the inconsistency between the education system and job market.

The country should address this crisis by investing more in education and ensuring effective utilization of the investment. In order to improve the quality of education necessary measurers should be taken to integrate a strategic and well-researched curriculum.

Furthermore, a huge number of unskilled teachers are deteriorating the quality of education being imparted to students across the country. The Ministry of Education must address the urgency of incorporating new training institutes and improving the functions of the existing ones. Taking all these into consideration, authorities concerned should work to address the barriers towards maintaining integrity and ensuring quality in education without further delay.
