The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved a development project of Tk 2,491 crore for Chattogram City Corporation (CCC). The project was approved at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday.
The meeting was attended by Local Government Minister Md Tajul Islam, Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud, Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Jabed and CCC Mayor Rezaul Karim Chowdhury.
762.83-km roads will be developed under the project. Besides, 38 footover bridges, 14 bridges, 22 culverts, 10 roundabouts will be constructed.
Besides, a significant aspect of this project is to upgrade the Airport Road to four lanes. If the project is implemented, the Airport Road will be upgraded to four lanes.
Besides, 600 meter overpass will be constructed on the road. The Airport Road expansion initiative was taken in 2017. A meeting was held at Nagar Bhaban with 21 service providers including Chittagong Port on the initiative of CCC. All the organisations agreed to expand the Airport Road. Later, under another JICA-funded project, CCC began upgrading the road from Cement Crossing to Navy Flotilla Junction and from Boat Club to Butterfly Park in four lanes. The existing project includes a 3.14-km extension from Navy Flotilla Junction to Drydock Omera.
