EC puts restriction on weapon ahead of Cumilla election

Cumilla City Corporation elections are going to be held on 15th June. On May 26, the Election Commission took a number of steps to ensure that the election will be free and fair. Prohibition of Use of Illegal Weapons According to the Election Commission's ban, no person can move around in the City Corporation area with a weapon. 

Law enforcement has been instructed to make arrests if anyone is seen carrying a weapon. 

Cumilla Senior District Election Officer Manjurul Alam said that instructions have also been given to file a case against the person for illegal intestinal possession and use. He added that the directive would remain in force till election day. Leaders and activists of any political party will not be allowed to use weapons in the City Corporation area. 

Meanwhile, the Election Commission is preparing to install CCTV cameras in every polling station and room. 650 CCTVs will be installed in 105 polling stations in 26 wards of Cumilla City Corporation. Voting will be completed through EVM electronic voting in all polling stations. 

Arfanul Haque Rifat, the boat symbol candidate in the City Corporation election, Monirul Haque Sakku, the current former mayor, is contesting as an independent table clock, and Nizam Uddin Kaiser is running as a horse brand independent candidate.  Awami League's rebel candidate Masood Farvez Khan Imran withdrew from the election and withdrew his candidature on the instructions of the Prime Minister. 

The mayoral and councilor candidates started campaigning from Saturday.
