EC delegation meets RCC Mayor

Implementation of a project in cooperation with German Red Cross and Danish Red Cross is going to start under the initiative of Rajshahi Red Crescent aiming to reduce the trouble of slum dwellers of Rajshahi City from the grip of heatwave. 

A delegation of the European Commission on Monday visited Rajshahi for a feasibility study of the total project and exchanged views with the Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation in this connection.

RCC Mayor during the meeting said, RCC has taken up a massive programme for tree plantation aiming to change drought prone, adverse weather conditions of Rajshahi. The drainage and sewerage system of the city has been developed and the work of making the city green no land has been kept fallow. 

The bank of the river Padma near the city is being made attractive to the tourists and various projects have been taken to develop the standard of life of the marginal city people and the women are being made self-reliant through various projects. 

He further mentioned heatwave is a new global problem. The climate of Rajshahi is being changed. The time of drought is being prolonged and the rainfall is being decreased. The water level of the soil is being depleted creating an acute need for fresh drinking water. The amount of poisonous Arsenic is increasing in water and children and elderly people are being attacked with various drought related diseases. 

RCC Mayor further said it is not possible to face the problems alone so he demanded cooperation from the visiting team members.

RCC Mayor also lauded the activities of the Red Crescent, specially, during the period of Corona infection. He said, the Blood Bank of Red Crescent in Rajshahi should be developed.

European Commission team members lauded greatly the clean and beautiful environment of Rajshahi city. They assured various cooperation for the non-facilitated people of Rajshahi.
