EC continues admin reshuffle for fair polls

*650 police personnel transferred in a single day *Two DIGs, five SPs and two DCs so far transferred

Authority continued major reshuffling government officials as per directives from the Election Commission ahead of the upcoming parliamentary election for making it free, fair and credible.

Till Thursday,  the EC  has approved transfer orders of  at least 1,000 members of Bangladesh Police including two Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs), five Superintendents of Police (SPs) and the officers-in-charge (OCs) of 338 police stations.

EC also approved transfers of at least two deputy commissioners (DCs) and  205 upazila nirbahi officers (UNO) so far. 

There are 651 police stations and 495 Upazilas in Bangladesh.

Only in a single day, the EC on Thursday approved the transfer of 650 police personnel.

The EC informed it’s approval to the senior secretary of the Public Security Division under the Ministry of Home Affairs in a letter signed by EC Deputy Secretary Mizanur Rahman.

The transferred personnel include 37 sub-inspectors, 23 unarmed police inspectors, and 57 assistant sub-inspectors.

Additionally, there is one sergeant, one town sub-inspector, seven naiks, and 524 constables among those transferred, the letter said.

On December 11, the EC approved the transfer of 19 assistant superintendents of police (ASPs) of Bangladesh Police. 

The EC ordered the withdrawal of police commissioners of Barisal and Sylhet metropolitan police and superintendents of police (SPs) of five districts. EC instructed to  withdraw the superintendents of police (SPs) of Habiganj, Pirojpur, Noakhali, Satkhira and Meherpur along with two police commissioners of Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) and Barisal Metropolitan Police (BMP).

The EC so far approved the proposals for transferring at least  205 upazila nirbahi officers (UNO).

EC additional secretary Ashok Kumar Debnath confirmed it.

Earlier, the EC asked the government to transfer all UNOs and OCs in phases to conduct the 12th parliamentary elections in a fair manner.

On November  30, the EC  had asked the Home Ministry and Public Administration Ministry to transfer all Officers-in-Charge (OCs) and UNOs in phases to conduct the 12th parliamentary elections scheduled for January 7 in a fair manner.

The EC also directed the ministries to seek its permission for transferring OCs stationed for more than six months and UNOs served in the respective workplace for more than a year by 5 December.

On December 2,  the deputy commissioners (DCs) to Mymensingh and Sunamganj were also transferred.

The transfers were made as per the directive of the EC.

DC of Mymensingh Mostafizur Rahman was transferred as the deputy secretary of the Health Service Division, while DC of Sunamganj Didar-E-Alam Mohammed Maksud was transferred to Mymensingh, where he is  serving  as the new DC.
