Bangladesh pacer Ebadot Hossain failed to join the likes of Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim as he lost the battle to South Africa’s Keegan Petersen in winning the ICC Player of the Month.

Ebadot claimed six for 46 in the second innings of the first Test to script Bangladesh’s eight-wicket win which was also Tigers first ever win on New Zealand soil. Bangladesh later was beaten in the second Test to be satisfied with a 1-1 draw in the series. But it was a landmark series for the Tigers as the victory came at a moment when their Test performance took a massive nosedive.

However South African batter Keegan Petersen was a sensation during the home Test series against India. He helped the Proteas register a series win at home against the Indian side, his runs helping lay the foundation as South Africa bounced back from 0-1 down to claim the series 2-1. Petersen played gritty knocks from No.3, amassing 244 runs during the series at an average of 61, making him also the Player of the Series.

Commenting on Petersen’s performance, ICC Voting Academy member JP Duminy said: “With the hype of the series and the high expectation, the composure Petersen showed while batting in a pivotal No. 3 position was simply staggering.”

Under-19 future star Dewald Brevis from South Africa was the other contender to be best player for the month of January.

From Bangladesh so far Shakib and Mushfiqur won the ICC Player of the Month award, while Nasum, Nahida Akter and Ebadot failed to emulate their feat.
