The increasing electronic waste or e-waste hazards are posing serious threats to human health and the environment as the electronic devices comprise toxic heavy metals like lead, mercury, cadmium, beryllium, PVC plastic and hazardous chemicals, such as brominated flame retardants.

According to ESDO, there are about 4 Lakh tons of electronic wastes that are produced each year which is predicted to become around 12 lakh tons by 2023. This staggering amount of waste that is produced is concerning as a large amount hazardous element are being released into the environment.

What is most worrying is that the country is ill-equipped for taking care of such waste  materials and disposing them off in a proper way that won’t cause harm to the environment! Another disconcerting factor is that in five years the amount of e-waste in Asia has increased by about 63 percent.

The authorities concerned should find like minded organisations in creating awareness against such waste materials being created and proper disposal units must be set up for the betterment of the environment.
