Durga Puja preparations progress fast in Chuadanga

Members of Hindu Community are now busy in taking preparations for performing upcoming Durga Puja, the biggest festival of Bengali Hindus.

Idols’ artisans are now extremely busy is finishing the work of Durga idol making in 4 upazilas of Chuadanga district as Durga Puja is going to be celebrated from October 11 to October 15 this year.

The work of making idols with bamboo, straw, clay and twine is running day and night at a swift pace. The work of putting clay on the bamboo-made form at all Puja Mandaps has been already completed. After a few days right before the Puja, final color and decoration of the idols will be done too.

According to District Hindu, Boiddha, Christan Oikya Parishad, 119 Durga Idols are being made in the district this time. The upazila wise breaks up are-33 in Sadar upazila, 28 in Alamdanga upazila, 22 in Damurhuda upazila and 26 in Jibannagar upazila. 

Sonnash Paul, idol artist of Alamdanga in Chuadanga district, said he has been working as an Idol artisan for 20 years. This year he is making about 10 Durga Idols in the district including the one in Chuadanga Boro Bazaar Puja Mandap.

Polas Kumar Saha, Treasurer of Hindu Boddhya Christan Oikya Parishad and an organizer of Chuadanga Boro Bazaar Puja Mondap, said primary work of making idols of Goddess Durga has been completed and final touches will be given on October 9. Then the Durga Idols will be put at the altars for worship. 

Kishor Kumar Kundu, General Secretary of Chuadanga Puja Udjapan Committee, said we are going to set up CCTVs at all Puja Mandaps to monitor the movement of people on the Puja Mandap premises.
