DUET Day celebrated

DUET Day-2021 was celebrated on the occasion of the 18th anniversary of Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET) in Gazipur in a festive atmosphere.

State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russell inaugurated the function on Wednesday, joining it virtually. 

Vice-Chancellor Dr M Habibur Rahman and the Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof Mohammad Abdur Rashid began the celebration of the function releasing colorful balloons, festoons and hoisting the university flag during the event. Earlier, the ceremony began with the hoisting of the national flag on campus at sunrise.

The state minister in his speech as the chief guest said “Today Bangladesh stands tall in the world following the path shown by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in education and research. Bangabandhu said. We have become self-sufficient in science and technology through the instructions of Bangabandhu in Qudrat-e-Khuda Education Commission.

He added that the present government has provided the education and technology sector with the second-highest budget. The curriculum of education system has to be formulated keeping pace with the time. After going through many ups and downs, DUET is now emerging as one of the best universities. 

He hoped that the teachers and students of DUET would gain more reputation at home and abroad through their talents and qualifications in education and research.

Vice-Chancellor Dr M Habibur Rahman said, “Today is a very happy and joyful day. The role of engineers is crucial in implementing the groundbreaking steps taken by the present government in the field of education and research. Therefore, we have to play an active role in education and research to build a better Bangladesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.” 

Pro-Vice-Chancellor highlighted the history of the establishment of the duet and said that DUET has turned into a university from an engineering college. He hoped that DUET would be able to move forward a few more steps to improve the quality of education and research in the future. 

Engineer Binoy Banerjee, General Secretary of DUET Chhatra League also spoke on the occasion. The program was conducted by Electrical and Electronic Engineering department Assistant Professor Mazharul Islam. 

Deans, heads of departments, directors, teachers, students, officers and staff of different faculties were present during the event.
