A Dhaka court has ordered Jalal Ahmad, an independent vice-president candidate in the upcoming Dhaka University Central Students Union (DUCSU) election, to be sent to jail in connection with an attempted murder case.
The order was issued on Wednesday (August 27) afternoon. Earlier, the Dhaka University administration filed a case with Shahbagh Police Station accusing Jalal Ahmad of stabbing his roommate. Following his arrest in the case, he was produced before the court.
According to the case details, around 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday (August 26), Jalal Ahmad allegedly stabbed his roommate, Rabbiul Haque, a Political Science student, in Room 462 of Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall. Jalal is a student of the Department of Television and Film Studies. The injured student was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.
Eyewitnesses said that the attack stemmed from a long standing dispute between the two roommates. After a heated argument over noise in the room, Jalal stabbed Rabbiul with a knife.
