DU VC pays tributes to Russian poet Alexander Pushkin

Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman on Thursday paid glowing tributes to Russian famous poet Alexander Pushkin marking his 224th birth anniversary. 

DU VC placed floral wreath at Alexander Pushkin’s portrait as the chief guest at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of the university, reads a press release.

Counsellor of Russian Embassy and Director of the Russian House in Dhaka Mr. Maxim Dobrokhotov was present on this occasion as special guest.

DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman said, Alexander Pushkin was a great poet, writer and philosopher in Russia. He had tremendous contribution to the advancement of human values through his literary works. He had developed and enriched Russian language, literature and society, DU VC pointed out.

Later Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman as chief guest inaugurated a seminar organized by DU Institute of Modern Languages (IML) marking the birth anniversary of Alexander Pushkin and Russian Language Day at the auditorium of the institute. Presided over by IML Director Prof. Dr. A. B. M. Razaul Karim Faquire the funtion was also addressed by Vice-Chancellor of Ranada Prasad Saha University Prof. Dr. Manidra Kumar Roy and Russian Language teacher of Military Institute of Science and Technology Ms. Olga Roy.

It may be mentioned that Alexander Pushkin was born on June 06 in 1799 and died on February 10 in 1837.
