Several hundred students of Dhaka University (DU) have staged demonstration in front of the secretariat on Tuesday, demanding the notification of the appointment of Mohammad Ismail, a professor from the Department of Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, as the pro-vice-chancellor (education) of the university.
The students marched from the campus and took a position in front of the secretariat around 11:30am. Earlier, they staged a demonstration in front of the Anti-Terrorism Raju Memorial Sculpture on the campus to realize their demand.
Abdur Rahman, a student of DU, said ‘We have been hearing for a long time that Bidisha ma'am and Ismail sir have been appointed as pro-VCs, but the notification has not been issued for so long.
We have come to know that Bidisha ma'am's notification was issued yesterday (Monday) in response to our movement, but Ismail Sir's notification has not been issued. That’s why, we gathered at the secretariat."
It is mentionable that the Ministry of Education issued a notice appointing Prof Sayema Haque Bidisha of the Department of Economics as the pro-vice chancellor (administration) at Dhaka University on Monday.
Despite our repeated attempts over phone, we could not reach Education and Planning Advisor to the Interim Government Professor Wahiduddin Mahmud on the issue.
