DU students demand global recognition of Genocide Day

25th March is “ Gonohatya Dibos (Genocide Day). The government has taken many initiatives to observe ‘Genocide Day’ in remembrance of the brutal killings carried out by Pakistan army under the infamous ‘Operation Searchlight’ of 25th March 1971. Then Pakistan authority tried to hide this truth any spreading many propaganda. But finally Bangladesh Parliament unanimously adopted a resolution to observe the 25th March as the ‘Gonohotya Dibos’ on March 11, 2017.

UN proclaimed Real Life Hero and former DUCSU member Tanbir hasan Shaikat have organized a programme on Friday to mark the Bengali Genocide Remembrance Day 2022 on the premises of Open Library and demanded International Recognition of Genocide Day. 

By the initiative of Open Library they organized a day long photo exhibition of 25th March, 1971,honourary crest distribution to the family member of martyr of 25th March genocide Madhu sudan Dey of Madhur Canteen, DU and heroic freedom fighter Abdul Hakim Bir Bikram’s family member. Also a special magazine named “ Ganahatta’ was published by Open library on this day.

Heroic Freedom fighter and Ekushey padak winning journalist Ajay Dasgupta present as the special guest while Tanbir Hasan and Kashfia Kaba students of DU chaired the programme. Students from Dhaka University present on the occasion. The guests and students of DU demands global recognition of ‘Genocide Day.’ So that people all over the country could know about the truth of Genocide and prevent all kind of genocide. 

Earlier Bangladesh Students League Deputy Social Service Secretary Tanbir Hasan Shaikat have launched an Open Library in the western gate of historical Suhrawardy Udyan adjacent to TSC, DU on 13th February 2022 where anyone can read book openly.
