A brilliant female student of the University of Dhaka (DU) was allegedly killed in domestic violence.
Relatives of the deceased alleged that her husband and in-laws were involved in the murder.
The deceased was identified as Ilma Chowdhury Meghla, 22. She was a student of the 2015-2016 session of the Department of Theatre and Fine Arts of DU.
Her body was kept at the morgue of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for autopsy till filing of this report on Tuesday night.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Banani Police Station, Noor-E-Azam Mia told the media that, “Iftekhar Abedin, Meghla’s spouse has been detained based on the allegation of her family and he is now being interrogated at the police station. He is an expatriate. However, it cannot be confirmed at this moment whether it was a case of murder or suicide.
Meghla’s relatives and fellows claimed that Meghla died after being tortured at her in-laws’ house on Tuesday afternoon. Later, she was taken to the United Hospital in Gulshan where the duty doctor pronounced her dead.
They further alleged that she was tortured to death as there were injury marks on her body. She was later hanged in order to pass it as suicide. They also claimed that she cannot commit suicide.
They demanded a fair and impartial investigation into the incident.
