DU sculpture department reunion held

The sculpture department of faculty of fine arts of Dhaka University (DU) celebrated its reunion and 2nd annual general meeting amid festivity. DU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the day-long programme at the premises of Faculty of Fine Arts on Friday.

Sculpture Department Chairman Mukul Kumar Barai presided over the programme while Sculpture Department Honorary Professor Hamiduzzaman Khan, Professor Nisar Hossain and DUKSA President Muzibur Rahman, among others, spoke at the ceremony.

Professor Akhtaruzzaman mentioned that despite the social challenges, the students of painting and sculpture have excelled in their work. He called on the alumni to come forward to improve the quality of education and develop the infrastructure of the university. Our teachers and students of the department have earned fame and reputation as sculptors at home and abroad, he added.

He further added, the university authorities have taken a wide range of programmes marking the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the centenary anniversary of DU and the golden jubilee celebrations of Bangladesh’s independence and urged the teachers, students and alumni of the sculpture department to actively participate in the successful implementation of these programmes.

The day-long programme also included a cultural show comprising songs, dance recitals and others.
