DU jacks up support for visually impaired in admissions

Dhaka University (DU) has unveiled a pioneering application process for visually impaired candidates seeking admission to the undergraduate programs in Arts, Law, and Social Science units for the academic year 2023–24. Academy insiders mark it a groundbreaking stride towards creating an inclusive educational environment.

Recognizing the challenges faced by visually impaired students, DU has introduced a thoughtful and comprehensive application process to ensure equal access to higher education. The initiative, set to redefine inclusivity in academic settings, focuses on facilitating visually impaired candidates throughout the admissions journey.

From the 11th to the 15th of February, during regular office hours, visually impaired candidates are encouraged to approach the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences to seek permission. This designated period reflects DU's commitment to providing many opportunities for interested applicants to navigate the process seamlessly. The application process requires candidates to access the application form on the university's official admissions website. A distinctive feature is the attachment of recent passport-size photographs of both the examinee and the auditor to the application form, a move aimed at personalizing the process.

To ensure a smooth application process, DU has outlined specific documents to be submitted with the application form. These include the admission test admit card, a certified copy of the disability certificate from a qualified medical professional, and a school-attested certificate containing a recent passport-size photograph with the head teacher's signature and phone number. In a nod to the importance of personal connection, both the visually impaired candidate and their auditor are required to be physically present at the dean's office to obtain permission. This step emphasizes DU's commitment to individualized attention and support for each applicant.

This initiative not only removes barriers for visually impaired candidates but also positions Dhaka University as a pioneer in creating an inclusive educational landscape. The streamlined process and attention to detail demonstrate the university's dedication to providing equal opportunities for all, setting a commendable example for institutions worldwide.

As DU continues to lead the way in progressive education, candidates are advised to stay tuned to the university's official admission website for the latest updates and detailed instructions. This marks a significant stride towards redefining educational norms and fostering a future where access to higher education knows no bounds.
