DU inaugurates Centre for China Studies

In a significant development aimed at fostering deeper understanding and collaboration between Bangladesh and China, Dhaka University (DU) has inaugurated a new academic center, the ‘Centre for China Studies’. The inauguration ceremony, held at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of the university, was presided over by DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. A S M Maksud Kamal.

The ceremony, graced by the presence of Chinese Ambassador in Bangladesh Mr. Yao Wen, witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Dhaka University and the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies. This MoU signifies a formal commitment to academic cooperation and exchange between the two esteemed institutions. Speaking at the event, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. A S M Maksud Kamal highlighted the longstanding friendly relations between Bangladesh and China and emphasized the role of the new center in further strengthening these ties. He expressed hope that collaborative academic and research activities undertaken at the Centre for China Studies would contribute significantly to bilateral relations.

Ambassador Mr. Yao Wen extended gratitude to all parties involved in establishing the center, recognizing its pivotal role in enhancing collaborative cooperation and development across various sectors between China and Bangladesh. He emphasized the importance of academic and cultural exchange in mutual understanding and friendship between the two nations. Attendees at the ceremony included DU Pro-Vice Chancellors Prof. Dr. Muhammad Samad and Prof. Dr. Sitesh Chandra Bachar, as well as esteemed representatives from Shahjalal University of Science and Technology and Noakhali Science and Technology University.

The establishment of the Centre for China Studies marks a significant milestone in the academic landscape of Dhaka University, signaling a commitment to fostering deeper engagement and understanding of China's rich cultural, political, and economic landscape. With this initiative, DU reaffirms its dedication to academic excellence and international cooperation in the pursuit of knowledge and understanding.
