DU holds seminar on Spanish language

A two-day long seminar on Spanish language and culture concluded on Wednesday at the Institute of Modern Languages (IML) of Dhaka University (DU).

Vice-Chancellor of DU Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman, on Tuesday, attended the inaugural function of the seminar as chief guest.

Presided over by IML Director Professor Shishir Bhattacharja, the inaugural function was addressed by Ambassador of Spain Alvaro de Salas Jimenez de Azcarate and Inditex Chair Director Professor Santiago Fernandez Mosquera.

DU VC said, Spanish language and culture are popular in the world and have contribution to world civilization. Bangladesh and Spain have been enjoying historical and friendly relationship for long time. Owing to this relationship many Spanish words are common and used in our language, DU VC pointed out.

Ambassador Alvaro de Salas Jimenez de Azcarate said, Spain will continue to provide all sorts of support and cooperation to Dhaka University specially in running and developing Spanish language courses at IML.

Before inaugural function of the seminar Spanish Ambassador held fruitful bilateral talks on various academic issues with Professor Akhtaruzzaman.

After the inaugural function Professor Jonathan Thacker, Professor Diana Berruezo-Sanchez, Professor Ben Bollig and Professor Olive Noble Wood delivered separate key-note papers in the seminar.
