DU female students join awareness campaign for breast cancer

A seminar on breast cancer awareness was held at the auditorium of Bangladesh-Kuwait Maitree Hall, a hall for female students of Dhaka University.

 The seminar took place on Thursday (November 28). A number of female students and female officials of Dhaka University, particularly female students of the Bangladesh-Kuwait Maitree Hall, took part in the event with the objective to raise awareness, emphasise the importance of early detection and provide preventive information. 

Speakers at the seminar stressed creating public awareness to substantially reduce the death rate of women with breast cancer in Bangladesh. 

The speakers congratulated female students of Dhaka University for their efforts at raising awareness for breast cancer. ‘Amra Nari’ and ‘Amara Nari Research and Development’ jointly arranged the seminar with the support of Dhaka University authorities as well as the authorities of the Bangladesh-Kuwait Maitree Hall. 

The Bangladesh Post, Daily Ittefaq, Ekattor TV and Dhaka Mail were the media partners of the event. 

Dr. Umme Humyra Kaneta, a breast cancer specialist from National Institute of Cancer Research & Hospital (NICRH); presented keynote speech at the event. 

The NICRH, however, was hospital partner of the event, while ‘Impression’ also supported the programme. Dr Mahbuba Sultana, provost of Bangladesh-Kuwait Maitree Hall, and Shafiuddin Ahmed, proctor of Dhaka University, spoke at the seminar. 

MM Zahidur Rahman Biplob, founder and chief coordinator of ‘Aamra Nari’ and ‘Aamra Nari Research and Development; delivered the welcome speech, while Jannatul Islam Nonima, a second year student of Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies of Dhaka University, moderated the event. Md Samiul Islam Hiron, Shahidullah Swapan and SM Bahar also attended the event, among others. 

Earlier on November 18, a seminar on breast cancer awareness was held at Shamsunnahar Hall in Dhaka University, jointly outganised by ‘Amra Nari’ and ‘Amara Nari Research and Development’. M M Zahidur Rahman said that they have been arranging such seminars aiming to raise awareness among the women about breast cancer and to promote prevention and treatment measures across the country.

 In her keynote speech, Dr. Umme Humyra Kaneta provided the audience with valuable guidance on breast self-examination, early detection, and preventive measures. She also discussed the symptoms and treatment methods related to breast cancer.
