Dhaka University Inter House Cricket for Women and Inter department Cricket for men will begin today.
Vice-chancellor of Dhaka University Professor Dr ASM Maksud Kamal officially inaugurated the competitions at the central playground of the university on Sunday.
Five departments and halls of women and men’s 87 teams of the institute will take part in the tournament.
Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall and Rokeya Hall will take each other in the opening day when English Department will take on Arabic department in the men’s opening match.
Vice-chancellor Dr Maksud Kamal emphasised the practice of sports for the students’ physical and mental development. Dr Maksud said. “It’s very important for the students to keep sound in mentally and physically and the university took initiatives to strengthen activities. Under the leadership of this university we will have a Developed and Smart Bangladesh.”
The Vice-chancellor also urged the students to build up themselves as complete human being and to obtain the leadership quality. Sports is very much essential side by side their academic qualification, he added.
Meanwhile, the president of the Cricket Committee of the Dhaka University Professor Dr Abdullah Al Mahmud, Advisor and director of the Physical Education faculty Dr Asim Sarker and M Shajjahan Ali respectively, president of the Dhaka University Teachers Association Dr M Nizamul Haque Bhuiyan along with the provost of different student halls, teachers and students were present in the opening ceremony.
