DU Botany department 5th reunion held

The fifth reunion of Dhaka University Botany Alumni Association (DUBAA) was held on Friday at Curzon Hall auditorium amid festivity and fanfare manner.

DU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the day-long programme as the chief guest, a DU press release said.

Vice President of DUBAA Professor Dr Atahar Uddin presided over the function while Dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences of DU Professor Dr Md Imdadul Hoque; Freelance Advisor for Research and Educational Development in Canada, Professor Mohammad Abdul Hannan (retd) and Director of the International Center for Climate Change and Development at Independent University Bangladesh Dr Salimul Haque addressed it as special guests, the release added.

General Secretary of DUBAA Professor Dr Md Abul Bashar delivered welcome address while Chairman of the Department of Botany of DU Professor Dr Rakha Hari Sarker gave vote of thanks.

Meanwhile, DU VC called upon the alumni to play an effective role in promoting academic career of current students of the university. He said the reputation and status of a university depends on the success, achievement and social status of alumni. So alumni should play responsible role in promoting the educational and research activities of the university globally. DU Alumni will also have to work from their own position to preserve the natural environment and biodiversity and bring the university to the top of the world rankings, he added.

On the occasion of the celebration of 'Mujib Year', Profeesor Akhtaruzzaman sought the assistance of the alumni in implementing various programmes adopted by DU.

Then, gold medal were awarded to three students for securing highest CGPA in the MS examination of Botany.

Later, Professor Akhtaruzzaman spoke as the chief guest at the reunion of ‘DU Alumni Association of Batch 1989’ at the Teacher-Student Center Auditorium. Presided over by the President of the Association, Fazal Mir Badal, General Secretary Kibria Majumder along with other leaders of the association were also present.
