DU Biology Faculty Dean’s Award goes to 8 educators

The Faculty of Biology presented the prestigious Dean's Research Award to eight outstanding educators at a distinguished ceremony held at the International Mother Language Institute, Dhaka University (DU) on Saturday.

Under the patronage of Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ASM Maksud Kamal, the ceremony saw a gathering of esteemed guests, including former Vice-Chancellor of Jahangirnagar University, Prof Dr AKM Mahbub Hasan, who presided over the event. Notable figures like Anwar Hossain, former Pro-Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University, and Saheed Akhtar Hussain, among others, graced the occasion with their presence.

The Department of Zoology expressed gratitude to Dr Shefali Begum, Chairperson, for her invaluable contributions.

Addressing the audience, VC Maksud Kamal stressed the importance of practical research, urging educators and researchers to focus on endeavors that could drive socio-economic development and address societal challenges. He announced plans to incentivize research efforts and underscored the significance of fostering stronger ties between academia and industry to enhance educational quality and research standards. The Vice-Chancellor also revealed a long-term action plan aimed at positioning Dhaka University as a premier research-based educational institution.

Among the honorees were notable figures including Prof AHM Nurun Nabi from the Life Chemistry and Microbiology Department, Prof Gausia Wahidunnessa Chowdhury from the Zoology Department, Associate Prof Munawar Sultana from the Microbiology Department, Associate Prof Dr Md Mizanur Rahman, Assistant Prof Anwar Hossain from the Fisheries Department, Assistant Prof Tahmina Islam from the Botany Department, and lecturers Rafiul Islam Ranga and Nusrat Jahan Poonam from the Microbiology and Fisheries Departments, respectively.

The event underscored DU's commitment to fostering a culture of excellence in research and academia, celebrating the remarkable achievements of its faculty members in advancing knowledge and contributing to societal welfare.
