Dhaka South City Corporation's budget of Tk 6731.52 crore for the financial year 2021-22 has been passed.

The budget was unanimously passed at the 8th Corporation Meeting of the Second Council of Dhaka South City Corporation at the Mayor Hanif Auditorium of Nagar Bhaban on Thursday. The meeting also approved a revised budget of Tk 6,049.80 crore for the fiscal year 2020-21.

In addition, for the first time in the meeting, one officer was awarded ‘Shuddhachar Puroshkar’ and one councilor was awarded as 'Best Councilor'.

Ariful Haque, chief revenue officer of DSCC, was given the Mokaddes Hossain Zahid and councilor of ward no. 24 and chairman of the standing committee on sports and culture, Mokaddes Hossain Zahid has been awarded as the best councilor.

Regarding the budget for the fiscal year 2021-22, DSCC Mayor Barrister Sheikh Taposh said, "This budget is the highest budget in the history of the corporation. However, we do not want to stop at this.”

He added that every year DSCC wants to work for the welfare of Dhaka people on a larger scale. It is believed that DSCC will be able to increase the revenue collection capacity.

Despite the government's policy, no one from the corporation has ever been nominated for the ‘Shuddhachar Puroshkar’ and this has been done for the first time.

"It is possible to increase revenue collection without imposing taxes on people. Our revenue collection has increased as he (Ariful Haque) has been very efficient as an officer and has overseen every task on his own, overcoming the shortage of manpower and the capacity of the existing manpower”, said the mayor.

He said that he found zeal, initiative, honesty, dedication and concentration among those who have been elected as councilors. Everyone works towards goals and when those goals are achieved toeven a small degree, everyone feels the satisfaction.

However, even after so much sacrifice, hard work, they are never given much recognition.

Ekushey Padak, Shadhinata Padak and many other recognitions do not acknowledge that sacrifice.

He said, “We believe recognition is needed to increase the work ethic of those who are engaged in public welfare and to encourage other public representatives. That is why we have been awarded the Best Councilor Award for the first time. "

Ariful Haque was awarded one month of his basic salary, a Crest, a Certificate and Md. Mokaddes Hossain Zahid was awarded 50 thousand taka, a crest and a certificate.

At the beginning of the meeting, a minute of silence was observed and special prayers were offered in memory of the late Councilor Jinnah Ali of Ward No. 22.

Farid Ahmed, Chief Executive Officer of the Corporation, delivered the welcoming words at the function conducted by Akramuzzaman, Secretary, DSCC. The councilors also expressed their views on various issues.
