Drugs worth Tk 2cr destroyed in Satkhira

A huge amount of drugs worth around Tk 2 crore seized at different times during Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) operations in Satkhira has been destroyed at BGB's Satkhira 33 BGB Battalion headquarters on Thursday.

BGB Khulna Sector Commander Colonel Arshaduzzaman Khan was present at the time as the chief guest. Satkhira 33 Battalion Commander Lt. Colonel Golam Mohiuddin Khandaker, Additional Director Major Reza Ahmed, Executive Magistrate Murshida Khatun and others were also present there. Among the destroyed drugs there were 17,300 bottles of Phensidyl, 1,395 bottles of liquor, 257 kg of cannabis, 22,648 pieces of yaba tablets, 7,638 pieces of various types of intoxicating tablets and 20,000 packets of bidis, worth of about Tk 1 crore 91 lakh 58 thousand 800.

Meanwhile, police arrested 25 accused in different drug cases during an 24-hours anti-drug operation across the district till Thursday. Four people were arrested in SatkhiraSadar PoliceStation, three in Kalaroa and Tala police stations each, seven in Kaliganj, two in Shyamnagar, five in Asashuni and one was held in Debhata Police Station, sources as District’s Special Branch of police said. Police also seized 1.2 kg cannabis from Kalaroa, 200 gm from Tala and 600 gm from Asashuni and recovered 55 Yaba tablets during the drive.
