A driver of a covered van and his helper were killed in a road accident as a covered van rammed into the lorry from behind on the Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu Bridge highway near Pouli Bridge under Kalihati upazila of Tangail on Saturday.
The deceased were identified as the driver of the covered van Alamgir Hossain, son of Azahar Hossain, resident of Jashore Sadar Upazila and its helper Shariful, son of Shahidul Islam, resident of the same Upazila of the district.
Sub-Inspector (SI) of Elenga Highway Police Sakib said the accident occurred in the area when the lorry and the covered van were going to Dhaka. The front side of the covered van was smashed in the incident. On the way, the covered van driver lost his control over the steering and rammed into the lorry from behind around 6:00am, leaving driver and helper of the covered van dead on the spot.
Highway Police recovered the vehicles. The bodies will be handed over to the victim’s relatives after completing the legal procedure, the SI added.
