Drive against illegal structures continues in Khulna

The ongoing eviction drive on the both banks of the River Mayur, the economic lifeline of Khulna, continued for the eight consecutive days. The district administration is conducting the drive in collaboration with different stakeholders, including Khulna City Corporation (KCC), Khulna Development Authority (KDA), Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) and Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP).

Executive magistrates Md Imran Hossain, M Masum Billah, DC official Jahangir Hossain, KCC Assistant estate officer M Sheikh Masud Ali Khan and KCC’s fifty staff are part of the group leading the drive which began on September 1, said Estate Officer of KCC Nuruzzaman Talukder.

During the drives, 51 illegal structures were freed on Sunday at Nirala, Kasemnagor, Gallamari area on the banks of the River Mayur from illegal occupation, he said adding that workers bulldozed a two and a four storied building on Sunday.

Khulna Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Helal Hossain said drives will be continued until pulling down of 382 illegal structures situated on the banks of River Mayur, Bhairab, Rupsha and 26 city canals.
