Dredger burnt in the river

In an exemplary punishment to illegal sand lifting from river, a mobile court on Tuesday burnt a dredger which was being used to extract sands illegally from the Jamuna River at Bera upazila under Pabna on Tuesday.

During a drive at Bijoyganj village of Kaitola union under Bera upazila of Pabna, a mobile court led by Bera upazila UNO Asif Anam Siddiqui burnt down the dredger instantly pouring Kerosine on the river where it was being used to extract sand from the river.  Estimated price of the dredger is Tk two lakh.

Sensing presence of the UNO, the illegal sand trader, Bhola member, fled the scene immediately. The UNO then ordered to burn down the dredger on the river.

The mobile court also seized a motorcycle from the spot and fined Tk 5,000 to the owner of an uncovered truck being used to carry away the sand.

Locals alleged that Bhola Member had been lifting sand illegally from the river for a long time.

UNO Siddiqui said none will be spared if engaged in illegal sand extraction. Mobile court drives will continue in future also to check the illegal trade.
