Prof Dr Md Abu Naim Sheikh has been appointed as the Vice Chancellor of Sunamganj University of Science and Technology. He is currently the Head of the Department of Mathematics, Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET), Gazipur.
The appointment was made on a condition of four years in a circular signed by Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Education Rokhsana Begum on Tuesday.
Dr Naim Sheikh completed his research at Kyoto University under a scholarship from the Government of Japan and obtained his PhD from the University of Dhaka. Earlier, he got 4th place in 1st class in Bachelor (Honors) in Mathematics from Jahangirnagar University and 3rd place in 1st class in Postgraduate.
More than 20 research papers of these mathematicians have been published in national and international journals and one in the International Congress of Mathematics. The 32-and-a-half-year-old veteran professor has more than once served as a member of the duet's syndicate, finance committee, dean of the science and engineering faculty, director of student welfare, and department head.
Moreover, Dr Naim Sheikh has been a Visiting Fellow at the University of Queensland (UQ) and the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in Australia.
He is currently a member of the UGC nominated syndicate in Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib University of Science and Technology of Jamalpur. Moreover, the renowned mathematician has served as a member of the Syndicate and Academic Council nominated by the President of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET).
He was born in 1963 in an aristocratic family in Raonat village of Kapasia upazila of Gazipur. In private life one son is the father of one daughter. The children are working in Roads and Highways and BPDB after graduation from Bangladesh University of Engineering (BUET). Wife is a former professor at a private university. The daughter-in-law is working in a private company after graduating from BUET and her son-in-law is currently studying for a PhD program in America after graduating from BUET.
