Dowry victim Josna’s husband arrested

A housewife named Josna Begum (50) was killed for dowry on February 23 this year at Purba Bharati village of Boulai union in Kishoreganj Sadar upazila.

Earlier, her husband Chan Mia had tried to kill Josna. But she survived those murder attempts of her husband. However, this time on February 23, she could not survive and was killed by her husband. After killing his wife, Chan Mia was ultimately arrested in a joint operation from Patiya of Chittagong on Saturday (October 10). The accused was identified as Chan Mia, son of late Amir Ali of Purba Bharati village in Boulai union of Kishoreganj Sadar upazila. The deceased was identified as Josna Begum, daughter of late Abdur Rashid of Raghunandanpur village under the same upzila. Kishoreganj Model Police Station OC Md. Abu Bakar Siddique said Chan Mia stabbed his wife Josna Begum to death on February 23 at around 5 pm due to a family quarrel on dowry. The next day, on February 24, the victim's younger brother Alal Mia filed a case against his brother-in-law Chan Mia. With the help of information technology, the location of Chan Mia in Patiya, Chittagong was identified. According to him, the accused Chan Mia was arrested in a raid in Patiya, Chittagong around 4 am on Saturday (October 10). Later in the evening he was brought to Kishoreganj Model Police Station.

Investigating officer Kishoreganj Sadar Model Police Station Inspector (Community Policing and Intelligence) Joynal Abedin said that  Chan Mia was sent to court for a ten-day remand.
