A college student named Neel Utpal, 28, and his neighbor Emon Sheikh, 19, were killed centering grazing cattle in Dakop upazila of Khulna on Tuesday morning.
Emon Sheikh stabbed Neel Utpal to death and later, Emon was beaten to death by the locals.
The incident took place in Bajua area of the upazila. There is tension in the area. Police have been deployed to control the situation.
According to locals and police sources, Emon, son of Badal Sheikh of the same area, had an altercation with Neel Utpal, son of Sukumar Raptan, librarian of Bajua SN Degree College, on Monday afternoon.
On Tuesday morning, Emon went to Neel’s house with a knife, woke him up and stabbed him. Neel died on the spot. At that time, the people of Neel’s house shouted and the locals came forward, grabbed Emon, tied him to a tree and beat him till death.
Dakop Police Officer-in-Charge Shafiqul Islam Chowdhury said there had been a scuffle between Neel and Emon. Emon stabbed and killed Neel. Later, the locals grabbed Emon and massacred him.
Upon receiving the news, police reached the spot at around 10 am, recovered Emon and took him to the Upazila Health Complex. The on-duty doctor declared him dead.
The OC said the area is calm at present. Police have been deployed in the area to avoid any unwanted incident.
