The entire nation is deeply concerned over the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority's (BRTA) recommendation to increase bus fares by 60 per cent during the coronavirus crisis.

Bangladesh National Awami Party (Bangladesh NAP) has said that the government's decision to run public transport on a limited scale by withdrawing the lockdown will increase anarchy and harassment of passengers in the public transport sector due to the extortion syndicate.

The party’s chairman Jebel Rahman Ghaani and secretary general M Golam Mostafa Bhuiyan said these in a press statement on Saturday,

They demanded a reduction in fuel prices and an end to extortion in public transport, especially bus-launch fares, in the aftermath of the Corona epidemic.

They said that in the picture of corona infection in the country, passenger public transport has to be locked down or it has to be fully launched. Because of the pressure of the passengers the govt initiative to introduce limited public transport will fail, the suffering of the people will increase.
