‘Don’t harm nature while implementing dev projects’

Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim has directed to implement development projects of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock keeping the natural environment intact.

The Minister instructed the project stakeholders after laying the foundation stone of the Institute of Livestock Science and Technology (ILST), Sylhet, under implementation by the Livestock Department of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock at Tilagarh in Sylhet on Saturday.

Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock SM Ferdous Alam, Joint Secretary and Private Secretary to the Minister Abu Naeem Muhammad Abdus Chhabur, Director General of the Department of Livestock Manzoor Mohammad Shahzada, Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet Mojibar Rahman, Sylhet Divisional Livestock Director Amalendu Ghosh, ILST installation project director Jahangir Alam, project director of the Department of Livestock Shariful Haque and Dr Jasim Uddin, Sylhet District Livestock Officer Rustam Ali and officials of the Livestock Department working in Sylhet Division were present on the occasion.

The Minister told reporters at the time, "The government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken groundbreaking steps for the development of fisheries and livestock sector in Bangladesh. The government is taking good plans there on the advice of the administration. The government is seriously considering Haor region."

The Minister added, "Sylhet is an important city in Bangladesh. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given utmost importance to the development of Sylhet. As part of that importance, the Institute of Livestock Science and Technology is being set up under the development project of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock. 

The institute will create skilled manpower in the livestock sector which will be in demand in the country and abroad. As a result, skilled and trained manpower will be created from the institute to meet the nutritional and non-vegetarian needs of the people, eliminate unemployment and create entrepreneurs. Will start the horizon ".

After inspecting the bull station installation activities under the Department of Livestock, Government Goat Development Farm and Sylhet District Dairy Farm, the Minister said in response to a question from reporters, "We have plans to improve the livestock sector of Sylhet a lot. We are doing Diploma Institute to create skilled manpower. This skilled manpower will be self-reliant and their unemployment will be eliminated. We are seriously considering the activities of all departments under the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock to improve Sylhet. We have a plan on how to increase milk production. We want a revolutionary change in the livestock sector in Sylhet. "Replying to another question on the recent deaths of zebras and lions at Gazipur Safari Park, the Minister said, "The environment and climate of animals brought from abroad are not the same in our country as in other countries. Similarly, we have tested the cause of death of animals at the zoo in multiple labs. 

In this case, we have found that the animals are dying of disease, not due to negligence. That is why we are taking action. No animal will die due to any negligence. "

Responding to another question from reporters, the minister said, "The various ministries of the government are working together to ensure that the wildlife is not harmed, the natural environment is not harmed, the climate is not harmed. We are trying to enhance the beauty by protecting an excellent natural environment."

Later, the Minister exchanged views with officials of different levels of Fisheries and Livestock Department under the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock working in Sylhet Division at Sylhet Circuit House and gave various directions.
