Joint General Secretary of Awami League Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud warned BNP not to do sick politics with Begum Khaleda Zia's illness.

“Begum Zia is being disrespected at the attempt of keeping her sick for the purpose of achieving BNP’s political goals”, he said.

The minister was responding to a question from reporters after exchanging views with representatives of the newly elected council of Chattogram Journalists Forum, Dhaka (CJFD) at the meeting room of his ministry at the Secretariat on Wednesday.

Newly elected President of CJFD Mamun Abdullah, General Secretary Touhidur Rahman, Former President Shahed Siddiqui, Founder General Secretary Shahin Ul Islam Chowdhury, Anup Khastgir, Mezbah Uddin Chowdhury, Saif Islam Dilal, Mujib Masud, Sayem Tipu, Rishad Huda and Momena Akter Popi greeted the minister with flowers and took part in the discussion.

When asked who is saying that Begum Zia’s life is in danger, the minister said, “Central leaders of BNP including Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Ruhul Kabir Rizvi are saying that while, no doctor or Evercare hospital has said that her life is in danger.”

In case of Begum Zia’s sickness BNP leaders always raise the demand of sending Begum Khaleda Zia abroad. This demand of theirs is a politically motivated one, the minister added.

Hasan said, “BNP leaders want to send Begum Zia to London where Tarique Zia is. So, Begum Zia can become a fugitive accused like Tarique Zia and do politics from there. That is why they never talk about forming a medical board to know what has happened to Begum Zia. They know very well that the government is determined to take maximum measures for the proper treatment of Begum Zia.”

The minister said, “Of course, there has been seen a competition among various leaders of BNP to hold meetings and seminars centering the sickness of Begum Zia, as they have to defend their positions and draw the attention of Begum Zia and Tarique Zia by showing off who is active or going on hunger strike.”

Describing Chattogram Journalists Forum as a renowned organisation of journalists, the minister at the time said they have always tried to present issues not only of Chattogram but of the entire country as a whole. I wish that this forum can play an important role in the development of the port city and the country in the future as well.
